According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), BA.5 is now the dominating variant of Corona in Germany. It is a more contagious subtype of the Omicron mutation. The data this development is based on were collected two weeks ago. This means that BA.5 may have dominated the infection situation for weeks and its share could be a lot bigger than 50 percent, which is the official number.

Germany's Seven Day Incidence jumped from 532.9 to 618.2 since yesterday. The number of Corona patients in intensive care is rising too. More than 108,000 new Corona infections were registered in the past 24 hours. Again, the actual number is probably a lot higher, also because only Corona cases confirmed in PCR tests are part of the German statistics.
